Update on Restoration [February 2012]

The restoration is in progress with the stage house being rebuilt, exterior terra cotta restoration finished, tuck pointing of the brick completed, needed demolition on the inside has been completed. The concrete poured on the inside with the floor being completed. The framing of the walls, rooms and hallways are completed.

All the windows on the front of the building are completed. The infrastructure of the electric and plumbing is in. The ticket booth foundation is finished. The HVAC has been installed and the ceiling has been taken down. The framing of the ceiling and walls is about to start.

Work is not ordered until there is money to pay for it so the project will stay out of debt. The goal is to have the framing of the ceiling and walls completed during 2012.

The restored Fourth Street Theatre will be a core attraction

to downtown Moberly as well as provide community

and economic development for the entire area.

The Vision for the Fourth Street Theatre is:

A restored, functional operating theatre arts complex.

A hub for entertainment, education, culture and business.

A focus for the community, a center for civic pride and economic stimulus.

A historic destination for visitors, tourist and local citizens.

 The Economic Impact is:

  • It will attract individuals to the area.
  • It will provide a catalyst for local economic development.
  • It will provide ancillary income to downtown businesses
    such as restaurants, shops.
  • It will create an incentive to improve the downtown
    area
    .

Volunteers have been working inside the theatre to reduce the cost of restoration. They have wielded hammers and other tools tearing down plaster and framework. They have taken up old carpeting and floors. They are
working with the vision of seeing the restoration becoming a reality. They will also help with the finishing work. The cost of the entire project is one million dollars. So far they have reduced the cost considerably.
